Student Store
The Grant Student Store is dedicated to creating a welcoming and united community through a commitment to equity, leadership, and quality merchandise.
Please note: All students will also work in the store as a Store Clerk in order to develop customer service and register operations skills and must be available to work in the Store during Lunch/Flex up to twice a week. You must select a role in addition to Store Clerk (e.g. Marketing Intern, Buyer, Display Design).

Store Clerk - All Employees
NOTE: Please do not apply for “Store Clerk.” Everyone will be a store clerk and another role!
Summary of duties:
- Arriving on time to shifts scheduled
- Operate the cash register and provide accurate change
- Greet customers when they walk up to the counter
- Suggest appropriate alternatives to out-of-stock items or direct them to the website when necessary
- Paying attention to shoppers and notify management of any shoplifting activity
- Notifying management and other employees immediately when unable to work a shift due to illness or emergency (otherwise unavailability should be communicated with management beforehand) and making sure someone is able to cover that shift

- Basic math skills
Accounting Intern
The accounting intern(s) work closely with the controller to manage the financial and bookkeeping aspects of the store. They use QuickBooks to keep track of expenses and income, and manage financial transactions with other interns, school staff, etc. They will have the opportunity to promote to controller in this role.
Summary of duties:
- Journalize purchases/sales in QuickBooks
- Cash Reconciliation Reports (auditing)
- Record vouchers earned/spent
- Reimbursements
- Manage vending machine sales
- Communicate with bookkeeper (Maggie Vera)
Skills needed:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Ability to meet all assigned deadlines
- Knowledge of QuickBooks and Lightspeed helpful, will train if not
Food Inventory
The Food Inventory Intern is responsible for the inventory of food for resale. They ensure that all products sold at the Store are district-compliant and consistently take inventory for the main storefront. Additionally, they reorder popular products and adjust prices as necessary. They communicate with marketing and display about new products ordered that need to be advertised.
Summary of duties:
- Determine what type of items should be sold
- Effectively apply feedback from customers and other members of the store
- Locate the most cost-efficient quote for an order
- Keep a continuously updated inventory of all items in the store
- Communicate with management about stock levels and reordering
- Unpack shipments in the store room and categorize them appropriately
Skills needed:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Staying up-to-date with the latest merchandise trends
- Strong listening and decision-making skills
Merch Inventory
The Merch Inventory Intern is responsible for the inventory of merchandise for resale. They ensure that all products sold at the Store are compliant with office requirements and consistently take inventory. Additionally, they communicate with management popular products and adjust prices as necessary. They communicate with marketing and display about new products ordered that need to be advertised.
Summary of duties:
- Communicate with management about stock levels and reordering
- Unpack shipments in the store room and categorize them appropriately
- Effectively apply feedback from customers and other members of the store

Second Store Inventory
The Second Store Inventory is responsible for the purchase of food and merchandise for resale. They consistently take inventory for the second store, especially b. Additionally, they reorder popular products and adjust prices as necessary. They communicate with marketing and display about new products ordered that need to be advertised.

Customer Service Representative
A Customer Service Representative is responsible for engaging with customers on behalf of the company. Their duties include answering phone calls or emails from customers to answer questions and update them on the status of their online orders. Additionally, they maintain a consistently updated record of deliveries and orders to keep up with customer needs.
Summary of duties for online and/or in-person work:
- Interacting with customers and handling customer queries and complaints in a timely manner, including online responses and inquiries
- Recording delivery of online orders
- Ensuring that customers are satisfied with products or services
- Following up with clients or customers to check that they’re still satisfied with any purchases
- Letting customers or clients know about additional products or services
- Determining the quickest, most effective ways to answer a client’s or customer’s questions

Display Design Intern
The Display Intern is responsible for creating an eye-catching and effective display. They consistently update the various display areas throughout the school to promote new merchandise and communicate with other departments about inventory status and advertising goals.
Summary of duties:
- Designing window and in-store displays
- Coordinating with the Marketing Team about what merchandise needs to be promoted
- Creatively decorating the space (seasonally, colorfully, etc.) to draw attention to merchandise
Skills needed:
- Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate potential customers
- Stays up-to-date with the latest merchandising trends and best practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong listening and decision-making skills
Graphic Designer
The Graphic Designer is responsible for the entire process of defining requirements for designs as well as visualizing and creating advertisements or merch designs. They are responsible for shaping the visual aspects of marketing materials such as social media posts, the website layout, and posters.
Summary of duties:
- Conceptualize visuals based on requirements
- Prepare rough drafts and present ideas
- Develop illustrations, logos, and other designs using software or by hand
- Use the appropriate colors and layouts for each graphic
- Work with the Marketing Manager to produce a final design
- Test graphics across various media
- Amend designs after feedback
- Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand
- Work closely with Website Manager to design a visually appealing website
Skills needed:
- Proven graphic designing experience
- A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics
- Familiarity with design software and technologies (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop)

Marketing Intern
Marketing interns are responsible for researching trending advertising techniques in order to create effective promotional material. They collaborate with the rest of the marketing team to brainstorm and decide on final ideas for social media posts, posters, and discount promotions. They think outside of the box to help create engaging advertisements for the store.
Summary of duties:
- Assisting the Marketing Manager in planning events and creating advertisements for TikTok and Instagram
- Develop new social media campaigns from the ground up, considering our client's needs and their specific likes/wants
- Monitor social channels for trending news, ideas, and memes, then capitalize on those trends through our social media accounts
Skills needed:
- Familiarity with social media strategies and platforms
- Ability to multi-task and take initiative
- Hardworking and dedicated outlook
- Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly
- Experience with content creation a plus, even if not professionally
Marketing Research
Marketing research interns are responsible for researching marketing and products at other schools and colleges. They use the Internet and social media to research trends, ideas, and popular products and brainstorm how this might be applied to the Grant Student Store. Marketing research interns then communicate these ideas with the rest of the Marketing and Merchandise teams to implement their ideas.
Summary of Duties:
- Perform research into other student store industries and provide actionable tips and advice for expanding their reach in the digital space
- Look into other student stores at local high schools, colleges, and universities to find popular merch ideas
- Brainstorm and regularly share ideas with Marketing and Inventory teams
Skills Required:

Special Events Coordinator
The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing events that promote the Student Store. They work closely with all departments to ensure events are well-staffed, publicized, and aligned with store goals. This role brings energy and visibility to the Student Store through creative and engaging experiences that build school spirit and foster a sense of community among students, staff, and families.
Summary of duties:
- Plan and manage Student Store events such as seasonal launches, pop-ups, or promotional days
- Coordinate event logistics including setup, staffing, supplies, and follow-up
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Display teams to promote events and ensure visual appeal
- Track event outcomes and gather feedback to improve future planning
- Support a positive school culture by creating inclusive, spirit-building activities
- Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including Grant community events, Grant Clubs workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities

Website Design Intern
A Website Designer works on the technical side of producing a website. They are responsible for updating new items and price changes, and work with the Customer Service Representative to ensure that orders are delivered to customers in a timely manner. They also work with the Graphic Designer to create an effective layout for landing pages, product pages, and other areas of the website, and test different designs to see which are most effective.
Summary of Duties:
- Taking a key role in maintaining accurate, updated information on our website
- Photographing merchandise to display on website
- Collecting and analyzing data on website usage to improve performance
- Responding to reports of technical problems and fixing them
- Connecting with the Marketing/Accounting team to ensure that sales events and discounts are reflected on the website
- Working closely with the Graphic Design team to ensure the website is aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate
- Assisting the customer service representative in tracking and delivering online orders when other tasks for role are complete (photographs, price updates, etc.)
Skills needed:
- A working knowledge of a range of software, hardware, and operating systems
- Excellent attention to detail
- A flexible approach and a willingness to accept feedback and incorporate it into their designs

Website and Display Manager
The Website & Display Manager is responsible for managing the Student Store’s online presence and physical visual displays to ensure a cohesive, engaging, and effective shopping experience. This role bridges digital operations and in-store presentation by maintaining the website, showcasing merchandise visually, and collaborating with marketing, inventory, customer service, and accounting teams.
Summary of Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date product listings, pricing, and descriptions on the website
- Coordinate with Accounting and Marketing to ensure sales, discounts, and promotions are correctly reflected online
- Monitor website performance and analyze usage data to improve functionality and customer experience
- Respond to and resolve basic technical website issues
- Delegate tasks and answer questions of Display and Website interns
- Design and update eye-catching window and in-store displays to promote merchandise
- Ensure displays align with branding, seasonal themes, and promotional goals
- Supervise creation of displays for sales events, such as 8th grade night

Library Internship
Sports Marketing
Completion of Marketing and Entrepreneurship are Prerequisites of the Sports Marketing Program.
Sports marketing is a project based course that requires students to show personal initiative and do work independently outside of class time. To be successful in the class students must be able to work in groups and be able to present their ideas to a group. Recently this class has won 2 sports marketing competitions and plans are in place to compete again national high school sports marketing contests. We are also hoping to bring back more of our guest speaker and field trip opportunities next year. In past years we have been able to take multiple field trips/out of school activities a year and bring in multiple guest speakers. This class is looking for students that are self starters and would like to contribute to the promotion of Grant Athletics during the 2026-27 school year.

GDC Advanced Dance Performance
Grant Dance Collective (GDC) Advanced Dance Performance Class
AUDITION INFORMATION & COURSE APPLICATION
The Advanced Dance Performance class, or Grant Dance Collective (GDC), is an advanced collaborative class/company that will perform at assemblies, concerts, on school tours, and other public events, showcasing original student-centered choreography. All dance styles are welcome - students should be highly skilled in their speciality, but should be versatile and able to perform in multiple dance forms.
The class is only open to 10th-12th grades.
Any dancer who wants to audition to skip a level (but not be considered for GDC) must do a live audition on either May 21st or May 22nd. No application or solos are required. Placements will be made based on class sizes. Auditions can be submitted by video if there are schedule conflicts. Please contact Ms. Murray with any questions.
All students who would like to be considered for the 2026-2027 GDC / Advanced Dance Performance Class must complete an application, submit a solo audition on video, and attend on line audition session to demonstrate designated group choreography.
HOW TO APPLY for the GDC / Advanced Dance Performance Class
- GDC Class Application - get a digital copy of the written application.
- Or pick up a hard copy in the dance studio and turn it in after it is complete.
- Share it with jmurray@pps.net or turn it in hard copy by 4:00pm on 5/21.
GDC/LEVEL PLACEMENT - LIVE CHOREOGRAPHY AUDITIONS

GDC/LEVEL PLACEMENT - LIVE CHOREOGRAPHY AUDITIONS
- At the audition you will learn two short choreographies, one hip hop and one contemporary. As part of our mission of students-teaching-students, GDC seniors will create the audition choreographies and teach them during auditions. It is a good test of your ability to learn quickly and retain choreography, as well as how you work with others in class, and perform.
- If you need an alternate time due to schedule conflicts, please contact Ms. Murray at jmurray@pps.net for specific details.
- Videos of the choreography will be provided.
HOW DO I AUDITION for GDC?
Auditions will consist of creating and performing a solo.
Submit a 45-60 second VIDEO SOLO
- Your solo should be your own original choreography
- Your solo can be in any style to your choice of music.
- Make sure we can see your whole body in the video the entire time.
- Show your technique, strengths, body control, and performance/projection skills.
- You are welcome to film in the dance studio during lunch or after school, if you need the space. Contact Ms. Murray for support, as needed.

- Don’t forget to also submit your GDC Class Application by May 21st.
Some seniors from GDC will be selected as an audition panel and will watch both the live auditions and solo videos and provide feedback/perspective to Murray. GDC Alums and other Performing Arts staff will also be present. Ms. Murray may seek feedback from other teachers that you list as a reference.
Other than those auditioning, no one is allowed to watch the auditions. Auditions will not be posted publicly.
All auditioners will be notified about their class placement through school email over the Memorial Day weekend.
